GPS Software
GPS or global positioning system is all the rage. Once thought just a toy for geeks, GPS has proven itself a viable business model; interest in GPS is very high: investigators use it to track criminals, parents use it to make sure kids haven’t strayed too far, it’s even got a wildly successful TV show where GPS is one of the primary instruments of locating the treasure (Amazing Race). GPS is no longer merely for geeks; now you can download the software to your machine and check it out for yourself. Whether you acknowledge it or not, Big Brother knows where you are. Not necessarily in the Orwellian sense, but with cell phones, credit cards, ATM’s, and online records (if you’ve got a laptop) police, CIA, FBI, and anyone with a gripe large enough is probably able to find you just based on the natural tendencies of humans. Even if you don’t have a cell, never make payphone calls, only use cash, and are never online, with things like security cameras just about everywhere, eyewitnesses who are busy bodies and notice strange people (strange being the man who burnt off his fingerprints, wore a fedora, paid cash, and wasn’t driving a car) more likely than not, you’re traceable within a few mile radius. Besides, unless you’re independently wealthy or work for the mob, you have to get a pay check and you have to go to work; the point being is that someone will see you ultimately. People know how to find other people. Even criminals who’ve evaded the law for years, usually end up getting caught; somehow or other they slip up, revert to old ways, return to the scene of the crime, whatever. So there’s no need to be too alarmed by GPS; even if you are paranoid and always looking over your shoulder.
GPS for laptops is pretty popular; as people enjoy these ‘treasure hunt’ style games that can be played from home, the GPS systems have gotten more and more popular. You need a GPS receiver and GPS software to make the whole thing work. GPS software may be downloaded, in some places for free; a GPS receiver may need to be bought; check it out online; they’ll keep you well abreast of the information you’d need. Then play on! GPS is fun, functional, offers safety, and continues to draw us all closer to a world network; something I’m sure the GPS inventors never even thought of.
